GENERAL BODY MEETING & FRESHERS' WELCOME NIGHT
At the Fall 2026 General Body Meeting and Freshers’ Welcome Night held on the 28th of August 2026, we were delighted to welcome both returning and new students, along with Charter Morris, Director of International Student & Scholar Services, and our faculty advisors, Dr. George Mugoya and Dr. Maxime Vignon. The event served as an opportunity to welcome new members into the ASA community and provide updates on activities and initiatives planned for the Fall semester.
The gathering also highlighted the accomplishments of the executive committee and celebrated the success of the programs and events organized throughout the summer, reinforcing the Association’s commitment to building a vibrant and connected community.
ASA UMOJA DRIVE DONATION
In partnership with Goodwill & Temporary Emergency Services, the African Students Association, UA, organized a donation drive in a bid to serve the community. Umoja in Swahili means “unity”, rooted in the spirit of Ubuntu – “I am because we are.” The main priority for this drive is to build a strong community engagement and make a meaningful difference together.
ASA UNITY SPORTS DAY
On Saturday the 6th of June 2026, the African Students Association, University of Alabama, organized a friendly watch with the African Students Association, University of Alabama Birmingham at the UA Recreational Center Football Pitch. This was organized in a bid to strengthen cohesion between ASA Tuscaloosa and other ASA branches for greater impact within the African International students community in Alabama. Although, the game saw ASA UA win with 5 goals to nil, there was no winner or loser, but rather an avenue for African students to come together and share the joy of community through a soccer game.
A special thanks to the E-board, players and everyone who came out to support. It was great seeing students from both institutions come together. Much fun was had on and off the field.
2026 ASA HANDOVER & VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION
On April 24, 2026, the outgoing ASA executive team hosted a handover and volunteer appreciation event to conclude the 2025/2026 academic year. The gathering honored our dedicated volunteers and formally welcomed the incoming leadership.
We extend special appreciation to our reliable advisors, Dr. George Mugoya and Dr. Mercy Mumba, whose unwavering support continues to strengthen the ASA community. Their guidance, encouragement, and consistent commitment remain invaluable to us.
We also celebrated our graduating members as they received their cords during the event; a proud moment recognizing their achievements and contributions to the Association.
